The indigineous called North America “Turtle Island”, because it’s shape resembles a turtle.
They viewed the Columbia Icefields as the “heart of Turtle Island” as it’s glaciers feed the major river systems of
North America and the melt waters flow to 3 different oceans!
This unique area is sacred to the tribes!
What I love most about hiking at the Columbia Icefields is how quickly you can walk to stunning scenery because
all hikes start at 2, 000 meters and more!
